BEES is run by Pete Carthy, a qualified primary school teacher with ten years’ experience working for local authorities in the Scottish Borders, East Lothian and Northumberland.
On Saturday Club, children’s party and bushcraft days, our adult-to-child ratio is always a minimum of 1:4, or 1:2 supervision if we are using tools or fire.
Our children’s activities are always supervised by one Level 3 forest school practitioner. Other staff are volunteers, including some Level 2 forest school practitioners. All staff have been checked with Disclosure Scotland and undergone a thorough vetting procedure. We are classed as Activity Providers by Care Commission Scotland, so you cannot claim Family Tax Credit for our activities.
If you are a parent or carer with children taking part in our activities, you are welcome to help out as a volunteer, as long as you discuss this with us first.
BEES is fully insured for all activities (public liability, personal accident, employers’ liability). PDF copies of our Child Protection policies and procedures, as well all other policies, are available on request.
